Where the overhead percentage is set

There are two separate overhead settings, and which one you want depends on whether you are pricing a quote or measuring job profitability.

  • Quote pricing overhead lives in your account quote defaults (Settings › Quote Defaults). This is the percentage that marks cost up into a sell price, alongside profit margin. The two are applied together, so overhead plus margin must add up to less than 100% or the price cannot be worked out; the page will refuse to save a pair that does not.
  • Overhead as a cost benchmark is set per location, at the location's edit screen, alongside material, labor, additional expenses and commissions. This one does not price anything: it is what job profit analysis compares actual spend against.

Changing the quote default affects new quotes, not ones already written.
