Photo captions and usage limits

Automatic photo captions

Open a project's AI Estimate view and, if three or more of its site photos still have no caption, Trussi captions them automatically in the background: a short title plus a one to two sentence description naming what's actually in frame (shingle type, damage, vents, flashing, whether it's an elevation shot or an aerial), and a transcription of any visible text on labels or chalk marks. A Generate photo captions button next to Site Photography lets you re-run it by hand, whether the automatic run failed or you just want to catch photos added since.

A caption run only ever fills in a description that's empty. It never overwrites a caption a person typed, and never overwrites a description that arrived from a CompanyCam voice note. One run captions up to 100 photos at a time; on a project with more still uncaptioned, the rest wait for the next run.

Once a photo has a caption, it's searchable: ask Trussi AI whether you have a photo of a particular detail and it can point you to it from the caption, instead of you scrolling through the project's files.

Where AI usage is tracked

Every AI-metered activity on an account (chat, photo captions, dashboard summaries, and message translation) rolls up onto one AI Usage screen under Account settings, broken out by activity with a rolling daily chart. Viewing it takes Modify on Account; the detailed token columns are limited to Trussi staff.

Message and attachment limits

Trussi AI chat is limited per person: 20 messages per minute, and 200 messages in a day. Go past either and you're told to slow down, or that the daily limit is reached and to try again tomorrow.

Attaching something to a chat message has its own, separate allowance: up to 10 photos and, separately, up to 10 documents analyzed per hour, per person. Photo captioning on the AI Estimate screen isn't covered by this limit; the 100-photos-per-run cap described above is the only cap on it.

The account-wide budget

Beyond the per-person message limits, the whole account shares one spending cap: by default $25 for the day and $250 for the month (UTC), checked before every chat message. If the account reaches either figure, Trussi AI chat pauses for everyone on the account until that period resets, and says so plainly, pointing you to your administrator. Other AI features, including photo captions, keep working when this happens; their usage still counts toward the same total.

Who can do this

Using Trussi AI chat at all takes View on AI Chat, on an account where AI Chat is enabled (see the article on the assistant). Generating photo captions takes View on Worksheet and Modify on Project Files. Viewing account-wide AI usage takes Modify on Account.
