How a payment fee is worked out

Bank transfer fees are capped. Now the cap is on the screen, along with the arithmetic behind the number you are charged.

A homeowner paying a $10,000 balance by bank transfer used to see two numbers that did not agree: a fee described as 0.5%, and a total that added $30. Both were right — the fee is capped at $30 — but nothing on the screen said so.

The limit travels with the rate

Every payment method now shows its ceiling beside its rate, before anyone chooses one.

The portal payment methods, with the bank transfer row reading 0.5% (max $30.00).

And the screen shows its working

The amount, the fee and the total are three separate lines now, with a note saying how the fee was reached. Below the cap, that is simply the rate.

A $3,000 transfer showing a $15.00 fee, the note "0.5% of $3,000.00", and a $3,015.00 total.
A $3,000 transfer showing a $15.00 fee, the note "0.5% of $3,000.00", and a $3,015.00 total.

Above it, the note says the cap decided the number — so $30 on a $10,000 payment is something you can check, rather than take on trust.

A $10,000 transfer showing a $30.00 fee, the note "0.5% of $10,000.00, capped at $30.00", and a $10,030.00 total.

The fees themselves have not changed — only what we tell you about them. This is live on your account now.
